Arm Lift

Depending on age, childbirth or cycles of weight gain and loss, some people may develop sagging in the arm area. This problem shows itself most on the back of the arms; the loosened skin and softening of the tissue create an appearance that is aesthetically bothersome. One of the methods preferred to resolve this issue is arm lift (brachioplasty) surgery.

What Is Arm Lift Surgery?

A firmer arm, a scar hidden along the inner line.

Depending on age, childbirth or cycles of weight gain and loss, some people may develop sagging in the arm area. This problem shows itself most on the back of the arms; the loosened skin and softening of the tissue create an appearance that is aesthetically bothersome.

What Is Arm Lift Surgery?

Arm lift surgery aims to achieve a firmer, smoother and more aesthetic appearance by removing excess skin and fat tissue in the arm area. The operation is performed through a small incision on the inner side, running from the armpit to the elbow. The scar usually remains on the inner side of the arm, in an area that is difficult to notice.

In some patients laser liposuction alone may be sufficient, while in advanced sagging both fat removal and skin excision are applied together.

In Which Cases Is It Preferred?

  • Those with pronounced sagging on the back of the arm,
  • Those whose skin has not recovered after weight loss,
  • Those whose arm area has lost its elasticity due to age may benefit from this procedure.

How Is It Performed?

  • The procedure is carried out under general anaesthesia.
  • Depending on the degree of sagging, either liposuction alone or a combination of liposuction + skin resection is applied.
  • Excess fat in the area is removed with liposuction.
  • If there is excess skin, it is removed through a small incision on the inner side of the arm.
  • The skin is re-tightened to create a natural and aesthetic appearance.

Recovery Process

  • Most patients are discharged the same day or after one night of observation.
  • Mild swelling, tightness and tenderness are normal in the first days.
  • After one week patients can return to their social lives.
  • Movement restrictions are generally not applied, but strenuous sport is not recommended for 4 weeks.
  • The final result becomes apparent within a few months.
